Inclusive Practices Innovation Configuration

This innovation configuration is included in Chapter 2 of the biennial report, America’s Challenge: Effective Teachers for At-Risk Schools and Students, and was developed as a tool for regional centers, states, and teacher preparation programs to improve practices of inclusion of students with disabilities into general education settings and curricula. Inclusive practices include the following components: collaborative planning; instructional strategies, accommodations and modifications; services in inclusive settings; social opportunities, relationships, and self-advocacy; and family involvement. This tool can be used to identify the required content and experiences in teacher preparation coursework that improve collaboration among general and special education teachers.
