Teacher Compensation

A key component of recruiting and retaining excellent teachers is compensation. At the “Topical Meeting on Equitable Access to Excellent Teachers and Leaders,” hosted by the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers on February 3 and 4, 2015, GTL Center’s Ellen Sherratt and Delaware Department of Education’s Christopher Ruszkowski provided an overview of the research on teacher salaries and presented on the recent developments of Teacher Incentive Fund grantees and the innovations in performance- and market-based compensation. The session included opportunities for participants to share challenges and promising solutions to improve teacher pay to ensure that schools in need of excellent teachers are able to attract and retain them.
